FAQ

Regional pricing questions

Which region has the cheapest eSIM prices overall?

Asia has the cheapest eSIM rates globally. East Asia (Japan, South Korea, China) and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia) compete for the lowest prices. The East Asia region covers 11 countries while Southeast Asia covers 11. South Asia adds 8 more budget-friendly destinations.

Why are eSIM prices so much higher in Oceania?

Two factors: limited provider competition and infrastructure costs. Most Pacific island destinations have one or two local carriers, reducing the competitive pressure that drives prices down in larger markets. Submarine cable infrastructure costs are also higher per user in low-density markets. Australia at $0.71/GB is the entry point — it has strong 4G/5G infrastructure and multiple providers competing.

Which European countries have the cheapest eSIMs?

Germany leads Europe at $0.61/GB. France and Germany follow closely. Western Europe generally offers competitive rates due to strong infrastructure. The UK runs slightly higher. Prices verified weekly from Airalo, Holafly, HelloRoam, Saily, and Nomad. Check the individual country page for current plan-level detail.

Does the cheapest provider change by region?

The leading provider varies by country and week. Across all eight regions, no single provider holds the cheapest rate everywhere. In some Asian destinations the gap between providers can exceed 30%. In Europe, the top two providers are often within 10–15% of each other. The country-level page shows the full ranked list of all 5 providers for any specific destination.

How do I find the cheapest eSIM for a specific country?

Each country has a dedicated page on PrepaidSIM listing all plans from all 5 providers, sorted by $/GB ascending. Navigate via the region pages or the all-countries directory. Country pages update every Monday. They show the cheapest plan, tier picks (budget, best $/GB, heavy use), and a 30-day price trend indicator.

How these prices are calculated

All prices come from PrepaidSIM's weekly API polling of Airalo, Holafly, HelloRoam, Saily, and Nomad. Prices convert to USD using ECB daily reference rates. Per-GB rates use the formula: USD price ÷ data in gigabytes. Regions show the cheapest available plan per country. Plans rank ascending by $/GB; ties break by data volume then validity.
